The Gary Sully Sportsmanship Award
The Gary Sully Sportsmanship Award is selected by the Foothill High School Boys Basketball team and presented to a senior player that best demonstrates good sportsmanship on the team. No initial TPSF application is necessary for this scholarship.
According to the Foothill Boys Basketball Coaching staff, The Gary Sully Sportsmanship Award is awarded to a player named by the coaching staff specific to "... an individual who acts positively and has affected the Foothill sports culture and environment, to an individual who demonstrates good sportsmanship, to an individual who puts others' needs ahead of his own and to one who instills confidence in others, to an individual who possesses a "Blue Collar" work ethic, and to an individual who has great character."
This award is presented annually at the Foothill Boys Basketball year end banquet.
This award was created in 2022 by the Foothill High School Boys Basketball Coaching Staff in honor of Gary Sully's dedication and commitment to the Foothill High School boys basketball program.. Gary is truly honored and humbled to be given this award for his sportsmanship and coaching achievements during his tenure at, and service to the Foothill High School basketball program. As part of Gary's appreciation, Gary and his wife Karen will donate $1000 in the form of a scholarship that will ultimately go to the award recipient. Alongside the scholarship donation, the Sully's will also donate $500 to the Foothill High School Boys Basketball Program to assist with the continuation, fostering and development of the program and its players, as well as excellence in the sports culture at Foothill.

About Gary
Gary Sully coached Boys Varsity Basketball at Foothill High School for 14 years from 1983-1986, and then again from 2015-2022. From 2012-2013, Gary also coached varsity basketball at Brethren Christian High School in Huntington Beach. He attended Foothill High School from 1973-1977 and is very proud to be a Foothill High School alum (1977). Gary had multiple varsity letters in Football and Basketball while at Foothill High. In his senior year, Gary led the varsity football team in scoring. The 1976 Football Team lost in the semi-finals of the 4A division that year. Gary attended University of California Santa Barbara and achieved a Bachelors of Science in Economics in 1981.
The highlight of his coaching career was winning the Southern California Regional Championship D2 in 2022. The 2022 Foothill Basketball team went 31-4 and lost in the California State finals in Sacramento. When coaching at Brethren Christian High School, the team lost in the semi-finals of the CIF D4. The team went 26-4. Gary coached Mamdou Nidiye (Brethren HS and UCI), the tallest high school player ever at 7'6". Nidiye led the State of California in scoring and field goal percentage that year.
Gary, a Licensed Realtor since 1988, presently teams with his family who owns The Sully Group, a successful Real Estate Brokerage and Property Management firm in the Orange/Tustin area. Gary also has a big heart for the Boy Scouts of America and is an Eagle Scout himself. Gary lives in Orange Park Acres with his wife, Karen (also a FHS alum '77). Gary is honored to be part of the Foothill community as well as the FHS basketball family.
