2017 Summer Academy Course Catalog
We offer 4 different levels of robotics classes, for different grade levels and abilities. Robotics 1, 1.5, 2 and 3 all run for 4 weeks.
Animation and Computer programming
Have you ever wondered how to speak "computer"? Do you like to draw your own cartoon or anime characters and create imaginative stories? This summer you will learn to communicate your imaginative ideas from your brain to a computer's digital brain. Through use of Scratch.mit.edu you will learn how to make interactive cartoon characters, animate short stories, and design your very own computer game. No programming experience is necessary.
Students will play each other’s games and participate in an arcade festival on the last day of class. Join us this summer and put your imagination to the test!
STEAM 3-5 and 6-8
What STEAM skills would students need in order to survive the harsh elements of Summer? This year, we will explore concepts such as power, navigation, shelter building, water filtration, and first aide in order to prepare students for the first ever summer STEAM survival challenge! Students will rotate through hands-on learning activities and will take virtual field trips around the world to prepare for the last week of summer academy where they are provided a scenario in which they will compete to become the ultimate survival team!
The STEAM Course integrates science, technology, engineering, art, and math in an authentic way to incoming 3rd - 5th grade students in an engaging, fun and challenging way through hands-on project based learning.
Students will learn about new technology that is changing the world today. This class will focus on the new wave of revolutionary technology. Students will explore 3D design software while using 3D printers to bring those images to life. Students will discover and explore the latest in virtual reality through the oculus rift headset which allow them to "travel" to virtual environments such as ancient Japan and outer space. In addition, students will develop the critical skills to be successful programmers and video game designers as they develop video games. This class will open the eyes, unlock the imagination, and blow your mind.
